Your Career in Medical Imaging in Massachusetts Starts Here

There are many reasons to consider pursuing a career in radiology. As this nation’s population continues to age, the radiology profession is following the overall healthcare trend and is growing at rate that’s twice as fast as the national average for other professions.

In the state of Massachusetts, the radiology field is going strong, with about 4,380 radiological technologists currently employed, with dozens of new jobs estimated to appear over the next several years.

Salaries for Radiographers

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the current average annual salary for a radiologic technologist in the state of Massachusetts is currently about $71,790, with an average hourly wage of $34.51.

This is significantly greater than the national average annual salary of $58,520, and is just one of many reasons why pursuing a radiology degree in Massachusetts is so worthwhile.

Unsurprisingly, however, the majority of radiological technologists are located near major hospitals in cities such as Boston, which do have a high cost of living. More information on Rad Tech salaries in Massachusetts.

Radiology Requirements in Massachusetts

Massachusetts radiological technologists are required to carry a state license, which lasts for a 2-year term. The radiological technology license is acquired by passing the state certification exam or, like 36 other US states, by passing the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam. Continuing education requirements must also be met to hold a license in Massachusetts and include 20 hours of education every 2 years.

Well-Known Schools for Radiology in Massachusetts

In the state of Massachusetts, there are currently 12 school programs for radiography that are accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiology Technology (JRCERT):

Massachusetts College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences University: Located in the picturesque capital city of Boston, this 4-year university offers a Bachelor of Science degree from its Radiography program, which is an accelerated, year-round program that takes 32 months to complete. This program features extensive laboratory classes and supervised field experience. Graduates of this program are eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam.

For career support and valuable professional resources such as employment listings, continuing education and conferences, radiologic technologists and students should consider joining a state organization such as the Massachusetts Society of Radiologic Technologists (MSRT). For aspiring radiology students, the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) is a valuable resource on radiology education.
